Over the past few weeks, I’ve shared the three pillars that guide every piece I create for UNCOMMON Jewelry: aesthetics, quality, and meaning.

The aesthetics are what first catch your eye. The quality is what gives you confidence that your bracelet will stand the test of time.

But the story?

That’s where everything begins.

I don’t sit down with a sketchbook and decide I’m going to make “just another bracelet.” Every design starts with a feeling, a memory, a conversation, or a moment that refuses to leave my mind. Sometimes it’s a sunrise during a morning walk. Sometimes it’s a lesson I’ve learned through thirty years in education. Sometimes it’s a dream that wakes me in the middle of the night. And sometimes it’s a relationship that reminds me what really matters.

Only after that story begins to take shape do I start searching for the beads, the metals, the textures, and the details that can bring that feeling to life.

The materials matter because the meaning matters first.

This weekend reminded me why that’s so important.

I was setting up at a local vendor market before the weather had other plans. As I unpacked each bracelet and carefully placed it on display, I wasn’t trying to remember a sales script. I wasn’t rehearsing product descriptions or memorizing talking points.

I was simply remembering why I made each piece.

One bracelet in particular kept catching my eye: The Motherhood.

I created it because being Kimberly’s mom has been the greatest privilege of my life. The soft pinks, the black accents, and the heart woven into the design all represent something deeply personal to me. They represent a relationship built on love, trust, laughter, and showing up for one another through every season of life.

But as I looked at that bracelet, I realized something beautiful.

That story may have started with mine, but it doesn’t end there.

Standing a few booths away was a family working together. A mom, a dad, and their two boys had come together to support her dream as a children’s author. They weren’t scattered across different activities that morning. They were building something together. Even with the storm clouds rolling in, there was something inspiring about watching a family invest in one another.

It reminded me that motherhood doesn’t look the same for everyone.

For some women, it reflects the relationship they have with their own children.

For others, it reminds them of the mother who shaped them.

And for some, like me, it represents both gratitude for the relationship I’ve built with my daughter and hope that love can continue to grow through every stage of life.

The story behind the bracelet isn’t meant to tell you what your story should be.

It’s simply an invitation to remember your own.

That’s what I hope every piece of UNCOMMON Jewelry becomes.

A source of encouragement.

And that’s why I never want these pieces to become “just jewelry.”
