The Best Jewelry Doesn’t Complete the Outfit. It Completes the Story.

I have always believed there is something powerful about walking into a room feeling completely put together.

You know that feeling. Your outfit fits perfectly. Your shoes are just right. Your accessories complement everything. And when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror, you think, Yes. This is exactly who I want to be today.

But I believe there’s something deeper happening in those moments.

It’s not just about how you look. It’s about how you feel. And more importantly, what those pieces remind you about yourself.

Let me tell you a story.

Years ago, I found the most beautiful pair of red wedge shoes at Dillard’s. They were about $200, and I absolutely loved them. They were stylish, sophisticated, and when I tried them on, I felt like Barbie. I have little Barbie feet, so trust me, these shoes were made for me!

But I didn’t buy them.

My daughter was in high school, involved in theater, choir, and activities that required money for fees, travel, and everything else. Although I had the money for the shoes, I kept thinking about all the other things that might need to come first.

A month later, my daughter and then-husband surprised me with those beautiful red shoes for my birthday.

I was thrilled.

Throughout the summer, I wore them and started thinking about how I could style them. Which outfits? Which jewelry? Which handbag?

Then came our first leadership retreat for the new school year.

I knew exactly what I wanted to wear.

A crisp, white button-down shirt. Beautifully fitted black pants. Those fabulous red wedges. A turquoise necklace that popped against the black and white. Silver earrings, a stack of silver bracelets, and my black Coach bag.

And let me tell you something.

When I walked into that room, I felt like I owned it.

Not because I thought I was better than anyone else. Not because I needed to impress anyone.

But because I felt like I belonged.

My outfit and accessories reminded me of something I hadn’t always believed about myself.

I am worthy.

I had experience. I had wisdom. I had something valuable to contribute. And as we discussed plans for the upcoming school year, I felt confident sharing my thoughts and helping shape the work ahead.

Those shoes and that jewelry didn’t give me those qualities. They reminded me I already possessed them.

Fast-forward to this week.

I was preparing for some challenging conversations at school. We’re improving programs, changing procedures, and asking people to step outside their comfort zones.

And if you’ve ever led change, you know that doesn’t always come with applause!

I chose to wear my Signature bracelet from UNCOMMON Jewelry.

Throughout the day, as questions and resistance surfaced, I found myself looking down at that bracelet.

Confident. Courageous. Clear.

Three words that represent the woman I have worked so hard to become.

Each time, I reminded myself that I have navigated difficult situations before. I know what I stand for. I know my non-negotiables. And I know that doing what’s right sometimes means doing what’s hard.

Yesterday, something beautiful happened.

A group of teachers I’d been working with told me they trusted me. They understood why we were making changes, and they believed I had their best interests at heart.

Then they jokingly told me that if I were the ruler of the world, they’d support me!

We laughed, but their words meant something.

Because that is what leadership, confidence, and purpose are really about.

And that’s what I believe meaningful jewelry can represent.

At UNCOMMON Jewelry, we build around three pillars: aesthetics, quality, and meaning.

I want every piece to be beautiful. I want it to be made with quality and care. But most importantly, I want it to connect to something within the woman wearing it.

Because life isn’t always easy. There are challenges, difficult decisions, disappointments, and days when our confidence needs a little reinforcement.

And sometimes, one small piece of jewelry can be the reminder we need.

A reminder of who we are.

What we stand for.

What we’ve overcome.

And what we’re still capable of becoming.

The best jewelry doesn’t complete the outfit. It completes the story.

And your story deserves to be worn with confidence.

Wear Your Story.
